This is a question we get a lot from our friends and family - and what a great way to kick off the new season of this blog, with a proper dive-in into what this be.CS thing is all about.
We are a brand for computer science students. So if you study computer science, you should definitely keep reading this article.
Studying computer science is awesome, right?
Ok fair - sometimes it’s not. Hard exams, annoying bugs, mathematics - we have a lot on our plate that doesn’t make our lives easier.
And yet - we didn't choose computer science by accident.
We love our studies, we love what we do and at the end of the day we can’t get enough knowledge about computers and information technology.
But unfortunately - the people around us have… interesting views on us.
Computer Scientists - Just Nerds and Geeks?
Since the early days of computer science, we often have been labeled by society as geeks and nerds.
While we do share a passion for the unconventional, the negative stereotypes about computer scientists and students couldn’t be further from the truth in the modern days.
Be it a lack of social skills or confidence, be it the image of a badly-dressed guy sitting in his basement 24/7 in front of his computer - none of these clichés apply to the computer scientist of today.
The Goal of be.CS: Breaking Stereotypes
While those stereotypes might still apply, to a small percentage of us, the majority of us modern-day computer scientists are nothing like our predecessors in the early days.
In today’s world, everything runs on computers and IT. The people behind it are intelligent, enthusiastic, social and confident personalities.
Therefore we at be.CS imagine a world where:
- Computer scientists and IT-people can proudly identify themselves with their field of study and work
- CS & IT knowledge are not considered a geeky niche interest, but common knowledge
- CS-folks walk through the world with a strong sense of confidence and importance - like philosophers did in ancient Greece
So we decided to create this online-shop, for the modern day computer science student. The goal is simple: Wear and show what you love and do it with confidence.
Computer-Science-Themed Apparel: That’s be.CS!
So this is what be.CS is: We are an academic brand for the modern day computer-science-student, uniting them via stylish apparel and items.
We provide you with t-shirts, hoodies, mouse-pads, etc. that all have one thing in common: A printed design, taken straight from the world of computer science studies.
Our re-interpretation of binary trees, is a good example - we take the gray theory out of our studies and make something beautiful with it.
But hold on one second… How does CS-themed apparel even help us achieve our vision of the confident computer scientist?
